Mindful Forest Walk – June 23

Tuesday, June 23, 2020

Join Cindy Olsen, Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide and Founder of Cindy By Nature, LLC., on an award-winning outdoor journey that weaves together elements of history, yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, and primitive skills. We’ll open our senses with gentle stretches and breathing, experience a walking meditation, sit spot and gather under the tree tops for a guided meditation and community share. Begin your day with a fresh breath and mindful awakening that you can carry into the rest of your day and beyond.

For everyone’s safety, the group will be limited to 9 participants and Cindy. Please honor the following guidelines:

  • Wear a mask and maintain social distance from other participants and Cindy
  • Bring your own seat cushion or blanket and beverage if preferred. A small backpack is helpful so you can walk hands-free during the walking meditation. The group will be sitting on the forest ground on 2 occasions in the program.
  • Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. The trails are rocky, uneven, and sometimes muddy in places.
  • Please be prepared with whatever bug repellant and sunscreen needs you may have.
  • Parking for this event will take place at the gravel lot at 685 Weaver Street, Larchmont, NY 10538.
The parking lot next to the Sheldrake building is currently closed.

Please note that the Sheldrake building is closed, and bathrooms are not available.

This program is being offered free of charge in an effort to raise donations for Sheldrake Environmental Center. Donations may be made HERE.

Family Forest Time (The Leprechaun Edition) – Sat 3/7/20

Saturday, March 7, 2020

Research is showing us more and more that nature connection is an essential part of a healthy life. Bring your family and get your dose of Vitamin N. Cindy Olsen, Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide and Sheldrake Naturalist, will lead your family in some mindfully fun activities to help you all unpack your stress, open your senses to the beauty of the natural world, and engage in some fun activities that will get us a little more quiet and a little more connected to nature.

With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, we’ll celebrate the stories of leprechauns, build some leprechaun homes, and find the pot of gold that is hiding in the Sheldrake forest.

Tea and refreshments will be served under the canopy of the trees.

Date: Saturday, March 7

Time: 12:00-1:00 pm

Cost: $20 per family

Family Forest Time in February

Saturday, February 1, 2020

New year, new experience! Bring your family into the woods to notice nature, savor the outdoors, and connect with each other and community. Look for signs of animal tracks. Hear the sounds of the wind, the over-wintering birds, and the flowing (or not-flowing) water. Feel the rough bark, the crunch of leaves underfoot, and the cold air around you. We’ll play some fun games that deepen our connection with the forest, and we’ll wrap up with toasty refreshments.
Led by Cindy Olsen, Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide and Sheldrake Naturalist.
Date: Saturday, February 1

Time: 12:00-1:00 pm

Cost: $20 per family
