Honor Earth Day by joining Sheldrake for a volunteer reservoir cleanup! Cleanups help make the Sheldrake Lake and pond a cleaner habitat for our plants and animals, which include fish, frogs, turtles, birds, ducks, and more. Cleanups also make a positive impact on the health and quality of the water as it continues downstream and enters the Long Island Sound.
Our Earth Day cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 17, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We ask that groups and families register in advance (below) for a one-hour slot during that time; this will allow us to keep group size in line with COVID protocols.
We’ll meet at the potting shed (via the 687 Weaver St. entrance), where we’ll provide instructions and bags for trash and recyclable collection. Kindly bring your own gardening and work gloves, and be sure to wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and sleeves. All participants are required to wear masks.
The cleanup will proceed in the event even of rain but will be canceled in the event of lightning or thunder.
