Science now shows us that time spent outdoors can improve our lives and the lives of our families. It is a concept that seems so simple, yet the Leatherstocking Trail, Dog Beach and Sheldrake sanctuary are not to be taken for granted in the metro NYC area. You may be familiar with Sheldrake’s robust program in our schools, serving as naturalists in a STEM-based, hands-on curriculum. But we want to remind you today about the deep roots that Sheldrake educators have in our community. Since the 1970s, our educators have been sharing their nature expertise with families throughout the year, and planting seeds of respect for the environment through wonder and knowledge. Sheldrake has an amazing group of people who are passionate about helping you discover nature right here – in our own backyard. What better way to introduce your family to the natural world than with a Sheldrake educator as your guide? This fall alone, Sheldrake offered numerous possibilities for families to get outside, including a fishing derby, weekend family walks, and a record breaking Fall Festival, featuring the popular theme of Fairy Houses! Become a part of our family tree! Your year end gift is an investment in our community.
Now is the time of year when we ask you to make a donation to help our vibrant, local nature center thrive. We hope to continue to give you easy, enjoyable access to nature and nature education in 2017 and beyond with unique programs such as these:
- Fall Festival – bigger and better!
- Our weekly blog highlighting local ecology.
- Our StoryWalk® program underwritten by the Junior League of Westchester on the Sound.
- Family-friendly Member’s-only events.
- Weekend programs, including hikes, birding, and art in nature.
- Bilingual nature programs and a bilingual nature club for families.
Annual costs to provide this breadth of programming run over $100,000. Sheldrake is privately funded, and this year-end campaign is a critical part in making these and other programs possible. Please join us by making a TAX DEDUCTIBLE contribution today to help us fulfill our mission to make Sheldrake Environmental Center the leading resource for nature education in our community.
